Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Founder

Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo was founded over 70 years ago, in the early stages of the Showa era (1926 to 1985) in Japan, by Kaiso Masayoshi Kori Hisataka, Kensei 10th dan. Kaiso Hisataka based Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo on his training in Okinawan Karatedo, Shorinji Kempo and various other traditional martial arts, incorporating the combative instincts of certain animals and considering the natural elements of “water, fire, earth, wind, and void”. Hanshi Dr. Masayuki Kukan Hisataka, Kensei, 10th Dan, was born on 18th November, 1940, a descendent of Seiwa, the fifty-sixth emperor of Japan the first son of Kaiso Kori Hisataka (Kudaka in Okinawa), Kensei, Tenth Dan, the founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karate-do. He commenced training in Karate-do and Judo at the age of three, and had attained black belt rankings in both arts by the time he was thirteen. At the age of seventeen, he entered an open karate championship and won it by successively defeating eight of Japan’s top competitors. In 1961, he met a group of Kempo practitioners who were challenging and defeating exponents of all other styles of karate-do. He won all of his fights by knockouts, crediting his victory to the method of contact training using protective equipment emphasized in Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karate-do named Anzen Bogu “SUPERSAFE”® protector.
